Addendum - Part 4
One of our most popular, uplifting learning experiences to strengthen our Christian beliefs is the annual Check Memorial Lecture series on Christian Family Living. The series was established in 1980 (formerly Rosalind Cheek Memorial) founded and funded by the Cheek family to convey to the congregation and their friends the sanctity of the Christian family. The lecturer each year is chosen by our minister and is a noted and inspiring Church leader, an author or a professional person. We have entertained such prominent personalities as: Dr. Jim Smith, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Dallas, who has spoken to us on two different occasions; Dr. William Beeners of Princeton University; Dr. John Canine, psychologist Birmingham, Michigan. In 1988 our speaker was Dr. William Van Arnold of Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia.

We have sponsored many different types of retreats for our members - women, men, couples, families, youth. - at a variety of camps. We have enjoyed Drake House, Limberlost lodge, Camp Lakeview, Camp Tamarack, Howell House, Singing Waters Retreat, Camp Ohiyesa and Camp Grindley. Other retreats have been held at Adrian College, Higgins Lake Lodge, Bald Mountain, Columbiere Retreat Center, Bay Court Camp, Camp Skyline, Blue Lake Lodge, Kingston Hills Camp, Jheddo on Lake Huron, Gordonwood, Ortonville, Pine Hill Camp and Brighton. Once again, ministering to the whole individual, whether in the quiet of the great outdoors or in a study residence, our members can refresh their souls with discussion groups, work groups or just back-to-nature hikes where the humdrum of everyday life is forgotten temporarily or at least put in its proper perspective.

September, 1988, another program of dedicated enlightenment was the Celebration of Ministry, a clever display in Kirkman Fellowship Hall of the multitude of Church activities and services available to all members and their friends, from toddlers to retirees. The day was sunny and bright and every member could be justifiably proud of the effort our Church staff and ambitious volunteers alike are making to appeal to the total commitment of our Christian beliefs. We are unquestionably administering to the whole individual.
To make the day even more festive the members of Men's Fellowship were the "cooks" for a lunch of hot dogs and trimmings prepared at a grill on the church lawn.

Our Church has always stressed Bible study and religious teachings. In 1965 we entertained Faith at Work Conference at our church. Women's Association lectures each fall are presented on a variety of theological subjects and a Lenten series in the spring have added much to the Christian's understanding of his faith. We also have dinners weekly during Lenten series for the entire family with an appropriate program during the evening. To emphasize the family participation in the Advent season an Advent workshop was literally fun and games for the entire congregation, young and old alike!
