Director of Music Ministry and Organist
Joseph Jackson serves as Music Director and Organist of the First Presbyterian Church of
Royal Oak. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of Music Director at a number of
historic churches such as The First Presbyterian Church of Detroit and The First Presbyterian
Church of Philadelphia. While in the Philadelphia area he was an assistant organist at the famed “John Wanamaker Organ,” accompanist/associate conductor of The Music Group of Philadelphia, adjunct faculty at University of the Arts, and a frequent collaborator with the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.
His broadcast credits include Public Radio International’s “The First Art” and American Public Media’s “Pipedreams,” and he has recorded for the DTR, Naxos, and Arabesque labels. Among his many solo recitals Jackson has been sponsored in concert by the Sarasota, Little Rock, Philadelphia, and Central Arkansas chapters of The American Guild of Organists.
As a collaborative pianist, Jackson serves as the accompanist for the Detroit Opera Youth Chorus, is a Detroit Opera touring artist, and has worked with numerous area singers and school choral groups. He received a MM in Organ Performance from The University of Michigan where he was a pupil of the late Robert Glasgow.
